Department lapse? 4 Illegal trawlers escape after seizure in Goa

In a major embarrassment for the Fisheries Department, four illegal fishing trawlers managed to escape from the Fisheries Jetty in Panjim after being seized. A total of 14 trawlers from Karnataka and Maharashtra were caught for illegal fishing in Goa’s waters. 

Fisheries Director Shamila Monteiro confirmed the escape, raising serious concerns over monitoring and security at the jetty. An FIR will be registered, while the incident has raised questions about accountability.
