Goa’s first sitarist set to perform at Swaryogi 2026

Goa’s renowned sitarist Pt Ravi Chary will perform at Swaryogi 2026 in Panjim on 14 May as a tribute to the late Pt Yograj Naik

Pt Yograj Naik Pratisthan, in association with the Directorate of Art & Culture, Government of Goa, is set to host Swaryogi 2026, a soulful musical tribute in memory of the revered musician Pt Yograj Naik, on Thursday, 14 May 2026 at the Department of Art and Culture, Patto, Panjim.


The evening will be showcased by Pt Ravi Chary — Goa’s first sitarist. Based in Mumbai, he will be in his home state of Goa especially to perform for this prestigious tribute. A torchbearer of Goa’s classical legacy, Pt Ravi Chary has taken the Goan tradition of music to national and international stages.


ABOUT THE ARTIST


Chary has shared the stage with legendary musicians and singers like Gaan Saraswati Kishori Amonkar, Padmashri Ustad Allarakha, Padmavibhushan Ustad Zakir Husain, Trilok Gurtu, Ranjit Barot, Sivamani, Taufiq Qureshi, Fazal Qureshi, Louiz Banks to name a few.


He collaborated with the late Asha Bhosle, on one of her last songs featuring her grand daughter, Zanaai. With a career spanning decades, he has performed at major festivals in India and abroad, blending technical brilliance with soulful expression. Known for his innovative approach to the sitar, Pt Chary has been instrumental in popularising Indian classical music among younger audiences while staying rooted in tradition. His journey from Goa to the global stage stands as an inspiration for emerging musicians not just in the state, but also all over India.


In keeping with Pt Yograj Naik Pratisthan’s vision of nurturing the next generation of musicians, Swaryogi 2026 will also feature a special Student Felicitation segment honouring promising young artists Devanshi Harmalkar on sitar and Kaustubh Chari on tabla, in recognition of their dedication and excellence in classical music.


Swaryogi 2026, a musical tribute in memory of Pt Yograj Naik, will be held on Thursday, 14 May 2026 at 6 pm at the Multipurpose Hall, Sanskruti Bhavan, Department of Art and Culture, Patto, Panjim
