In a major step towards positioning the state as a global hub for high-tech innovation, the Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Rohan Khaunte, today officially released Goa’s draft Artificial Intelligence Policy for public consultation.
The release of this draft document follows a series of intensive deliberations with industry leaders, academia and key stakeholders. The minister had earlier announced that a policy framework would be prepared within a 100-day window, but this draft has been ready within 50 days.
“This policy needs to be implemented in every sector be it finance, tourism or governance and hence, we’re keeping it in the public domain for everybody’s inputs,” the minister said.
The Minister further highlighted that the primary goal of the policy is to ensure that technological advancements benefit the common citizen. The draft policy focuses on AI skilling, development of AI startups, industry and innovative ecosystems, improving government and public services, creating infrastructure for AI and research. Under the Goa AI Mission 2027, this draft policy aims to leverage local talent, develop LLM models and also ensure safety and accountability.
The Minister also informed that the state is actively deliberating on restricting social media access for children under the age of 16. "We're currently waiting for further inputs from stakeholders to refine how we promote AI-driven educational tools as a more productive alternative to social media,” the Minister stated.
The public is encouraged to review the AI Policy draft that will be available on the state portal, Goa Online Portal and DITE&C website, from 4 May 2026 for a period of 15 days.
