India crossed the 50-medal mark at the 2026 Asian Para Games in Japan, with gold-medal performances by Dilip Mahadu Gavit and Simran Sharma and multiple medals in athletics and swimming

India’s para-athletes delivered an impressive performance at the Asian Para Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on October 21, with outstanding performances in athletics and swimming, helping the country cross the 50-medal mark.

A major highlight of the day was the gold-medal performance of Dilip Mahadu Gavit, who won the men’s 100m T47 sprint with a Games-record time. Gavit, who had earlier won gold in the 100m T47 event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, continued his strong run on the international stage.

India also celebrated a remarkable double gold from Simran Sharma, who won the women’s 100m T12 final with a Games-record performance. This was her second gold medal at the Games, following her victory in the women’s 200m T12 event.

The Indian contingent added several medals across athletics and swimming. Banothu Akira won silver in the men’s 400m T38, while Ravi Karthik Budigina secured silver in the men’s 100m backstroke S13 event.

In athletics, Indian athletes earned bronze medals in multiple events, including the men’s 1500m T12/T13 through Sharath Makanahalli, the men’s long jump through Shailesh Kumar, and the men’s shot put F46 through Parveen. India also secured bronze medals in swimming, with Himanshu Nandal and Rohit Kumar finishing third in their respective breaststroke events.

The performances reflect India’s growing strength across para-sports, with athletes competing strongly in track and field and swimming. The Games, being held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from October 18 to 24, provide a major platform for athletes with disabilities from across Asia to showcase their talent and determination.

With several events still to be contested, India will look to build on its medal-winning momentum and improve its position in the overall standings.
