A question that often arises today is whether Mahatma Gandhi and his ideology remain relevant in this day and age. As citizens, it is our collective responsibility to keep his ideals alive, says Kuldeep Kamat, Assistant Professor at Vidya Prabodhini College of Commerce, Education, Computer and Management, Porvorim.
The educationist also reflects on Gandhi’s views on truth. Gandhiji sought peace and unity among the various communities that were in conflict in India. Kamat shares stories that highlight how the Father of the Nation strove to foster harmony among people, irrespective of caste or religion. Although Gandhi was a Hindu, the faith he truly followed was the religion of humanity, explains Anant Agni, author and Headmaster of Ravindra Kelekar Dnyanmandir, Margao. Agni highlights how Gandhiji transcended religious boundaries, drawing wisdom from the Bible, Bhagavad Gita and Quran. He also shares stories of Gandhiji’s experiences in South Africa and his compassion for a Dalit family.
Prof (Dr) Sushila Sawant Mendes, researcher and author, recalls an incident involving Gandhiji and her parents at the time of their wedding. She also shares her thoughts on his anti-partition stance and some of his viewpoints that drew opposition from people of all walks of life. https://youtu.be/n-iWpQdEySs
